Overview
The quasi-private authority controlling ownership of all domain names is called the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). ICANN established a procedure for resolving domain-name disputes called the Uniform Dispute Resolution Procedure (UDRP). In cases involving such disputes, Kirton McConkie's intellectual property attorneys advise and assist clients with preparing and filing complaints on a traditional hourly fee basis. Typically, the initial cost to prepare a UDRP complaint ranges from approximately $3,000 to $5,000 depending on the number of domain names in dispute and the complexity of the associated facts and circumstances.
Clients are responsible for hard costs incurred, which includes the filing fee for a complaint. Currently, the filing fee for a UDRP complaint concerning one to two disputed domain names is $1,330 for a single-member panel and $2,660 for a three-member panel. The filing fees increase depending on the number of domain names in dispute.
